Michigan Congressman Andy Levin composed a letter to Secretary of State Mike Pompeo expressing the disagreement regarding the U.S. stance on Israeli settlements.
On November 18, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo announced that the Trump administration will no longer view the West Bank Jewish settlement as illegal.
In response to this announcement, Michigan Congressman Andy Levin composed a letter to Pompeo expressing the “strong disagreement” towards the decision and urging him to reverse the policy decision.
The letter states that this reversal made by the Trump administration is abandoning a 1978 legal opinion that deemed the Israeli settlements “inconsistent with international law.”
Over 100 Democrats signed the letter, including Michigan representatives Rashida Tlaib, Debbie Dingell, Brenda Lawrence and Dan Kildee.
